Canadian duo Death From Above 1979 have announced a new album, Private Lives, along with a lengthy North American tour, according to Stereogum. The record follows 2021’s Is 4 Lovers, and its title track is available now.
About the album
Private Lives is a 10-song LP set for release on January 29, 2027, through the band’s own Last Gang imprint with MNRK. The tracklist includes “Escape From Steeltown,” “Mystery” (featuring CSS), “Hi Lo,” “Put Up/Shut Up,” “Dreams,” “Drunk In Tokyo,” “Like My Ex Did,” “TV Don’t Talk Back” and “Late Stage Liberal.”
Describing the title track, the band said it is “a declaration of privacy in an era of overexposure.” They said people are often pushed, frequently by each other, to share their most intimate moments and quietest thoughts, and questioned the purpose of doing so, suggesting it often feeds a “cheap consumer feedback loop.” They also added that it is, above all, “a ripping rock song with maniacal riffs.”
The group said the album reflects a renewed commitment to “the pure industrial magic of electricity” and that they have never been able to do anything halfway. They compared that approach to Kim Bodnia’s dance performance in the video for the lead single, saying it is “all or nothing” for them. The video was directed by Eva Michon. In the song’s lyrics, the band asks repeatedly, “Why don’t the children dance?”
Tour dates
The tour begins February 2, 2027, in Tempe, Arizona, at The Marquee. It continues through California with stops in San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Ana, Ventura, Sacramento and San Francisco, running through February 11.
The run resumes February 24 in Waterloo, Ontario, and moves through Toronto, London, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. It then heads to the northeastern US, with shows in Boston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Pittsburgh in early March.
Further dates include Denver on March 15, Chicago at Thalia Hall on March 17, St. Louis, and Minneapolis, followed by Canadian stops in Winnipeg, Red Deer, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria. The tour wraps up with shows in Portland at Revolution Hall on March 29 and Seattle at The Crocodile on March 31.
